JUG IV Master plan
Competition design for Osijek Master plan. Awarded 2nd prize. Done in collaboration with Interdis d.o.o.
The JUG IV urban development project envisions a forward-thinking, ecologically grounded and socially cohesive expansion of Osijek. Positioned on the city’s southeastern periphery, adjacent to Jug II and the industrial zone, the proposal redefines peripheral urbanism by establishing a polycentric structure organized around Bajer Lake—a central landscape anchor and ecological node. Rather than replicating the historic fragmentation that has long defined Osijek’s urban growth, JUG IV proposes an inclusive, resilient urban fabric articulated through a network of interconnected micro-neighborhoods. Each cluster responds contextually to its immediate surroundings, with denser, modernist morphologies in the north transitioning into hybrid and suburban typologies towards the south, ensuring both continuity and spatial diversity. Public programs—education, healthcare, recreation, worship, and commerce—are spatially embedded within a “10-minute city” framework, guaranteeing proximity and accessibility while reinforcing the pedestrian-centric logic of the design. Vehicular circulation is relegated to a peripheral ring, preserving the core for soft mobility and environmental continuity. A robust green-blue infrastructure system weaves through the site, integrating regional ecological corridors and positioning the lake as both a leisure amenity and a pedagogical landscape. Implementation is envisioned in flexible phases, aligned with infrastructural readiness and regulatory adaptability. Ultimately, JUG IV is conceived not merely as an extension of Osijek but as a regenerative urban ecosystem, balancing density with porosity, and infrastructure with identity—a contemporary periphery reimagined as a civic landscape.
